Claim victory at C.A.B.A. Championship on Lake Palestine

Saturday October 7, 2006 – Flint Point, Texas…… The ol’ girl still has it in her!  Due to the low water and dangerous conditions on numerous Texas lakes, THE TRITON/CHRISTIAN ANGLERS BASS ASSOCIATIONS’  Championship returned to Lake Palestine for our 2006 shootout.  While this was my LAST resort and the lesser of the evils, I felt it was the best overall choice for our Championship qualifiers.  All participants and the C.A.B.A. crew were blessed with a beautiful day all around.  Light and variable winds and bluebird skies were the order of the day.  And the fish bit better than they did in ’05!

 The team of Baumann & Pine from our Hubbard/Tawakoni Division out distanced the remaining field by weighing in one of many 5 fish limits of Palestine bass tipping the scales at a whopping 25.02 lbs.  They produced their winning stringer by chunking brush hogs all day long in the Naches & Kickapoo area of the lake.  But they were not alone. Numerous top place finishers were in the same area.  For their efforts they were awarded a certificate for a fully rigged, lake ready Triton 196 with Mercury 200 Optimax and standard amenities sponsored by Triton Boats and North Texas Marine.  Congratulation guys on a job well done!

 Rounding out the top 5 teams were Kilmer & Taylor in 2nd place with another limit weighing 15.60 lbs.  Again the extreme north end of the lake came into play.  Cole & Herron took 3rd place with 15.40 lbs.  4th place went to the team of Climer & Climer with a weight of 13.33 lbs. and 5th place went to the team of Boles & Inlow with 13.30 lbs.  They also took home big bass honors with a nice Palestine bass weighing in at 7.47 lbs.

 During our CHAMPIONSHIP awards presentations we take the time to honor the achievements of those who have participated with us during the 2006 tournament season.  Our 2006 Anglers of the Year from the Monday Night Division is Beach & Swindall.  Our 2006 Anglers of the Year from the Thursday Night Division is Brock & Brock, our 2006 Anglers of the Year from the Ray Hubbard/Tawakoni Division is Swindall & Young and our 2006 Anglers of the Year from the Road-Runner Division is Gray & Mathews.  For their efforts and support of C.A.B.A. they will be fishing the 2007 regular qualifying season at no charge!

 Our “Rookie Team of the Year” award was presented to the team of Piece & Priest.  This award is presented to the team fishing their first season with C.A.B.A. and has displayed the best overall sportsmanship and support of C.A.B.A.  What a blessing they have been.  Congratulation guys!

 Our membership drive winners for the 2006 season were Jerry Shipe from our Weekly Divisions and Keith Bazzell from our Monthly Divisions.  For their efforts they each received a great assortment of tackle and appreciation plaque.  It’s through our members sharing the news and vision about C.A.B.A. that this ministry outreaches grows, so please continue to spread the word!  Congratulations to all on a job well done!

 We were truly blessed this year to have David Short, fishery biologist with Bass Pro Shops and Alton Jones, B.A.S.S. Elite Series and F.L.W. touring pro as our special guests.  What a blessing they were.  This was the first time David had been with us and the second time for Alton.  Hopefully our paths will cross again in the future.  Thanks guys for your willingness to be with us.

 While our normal tournament season is now over, please remember we still have several Open Team tournaments coming up.  Our Open events are very important to C.A.B.A. in that the 10% retained helps with our off season operational expenses.  So make plans now to join us at as many events as your schedule will allow.  For a complete listing of all remaining Open events for 2006 please access the Open Team events page of our web site. 

Our 2007 “Sneak Preview” tournament schedule will be published shortly and I hope it is received well.  The final printing on the ’07 schedule and rule revisions will be done the first of November, so look for it in the mail and at various tackle and marina outlets in the area soon.  Please access the ’07 schedule page of our web site for complete info.

Now it’s time to for most of our volunteers and participants to take a break from the non-stop pace of the tournament trail and enjoy a wonderful and safe holiday season.  Although the work for Jimmie and I continues, this is the time of year when I actually get to go fishing some.  I again want to thank each angler and sponsor who has participated with C.A.B.A.  It is because of you that we can do what we are called to do.

 For those teams that continue to be a part on this ministry outreach and to those that have just joined us, I want to say thank you so very much.  Without you we could not accomplish our mission.  We do our very best to provide the best payback and amenities possible with the funding and sponsorship we have available.  Those who fish with us are accomplishing much more than just having the chance to win a monetary reward.  For our work is eternal.  Each time you fish a C.A.B.A. monthly or weekly event you allow us to give to ministries that are doing what the Lord has called them to do.  Without our support they would be hindered in their ministry outreach!  Each time you fish a weekly C.A.B.A. event you help support this ministry, which in turn allows us to do what God has called us to do.
